It’s On Clothing Interview

HEY DAVON, I APPRECIATE YOU REACHING OUT AND TAKING THE TIME TO MEET ONE-ON-ONE

It’s my pleasure. I’ve been following you on Instagram and enjoy your posts. You’re pretty passionate about fashion, so it was a no-brainer to reach out. I really appreciate your time.

I DEFINITELY APPRECIATE THAT! LET’S GET DOWN TO IT. TELL ME A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY

I’ve been in the music business for about 12 years in different roles – working in studios, artist management, etc. I realized early on that music and fashion are one and the same, the image is nearly as important as the music. I began designing shirts and jackets for artists, and the pieces became something people would talk about.

IT’S ON CLOTHING, WHAT LED YOU TO LAUNCH THE BRAND?

I have always taken the time to make sure I was on top of my fashion game. When I realized other people started to recognize the custom shirts I had designed and was rocking, I knew I might be onto something.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT WHAT YOUR BRAND IS ALL ABOUT, AND WHAT THE BRAND AIMS TO REPRESENT

We are a street/lifestyle brand, targeting like-minded individuals with success on the brain. Those who know that it’s going to take hard work and sacrifice to realize their dreams. “It’s On!” is a slogan we use when people doubt what we can accomplish. It’s all about the hustle. We put in work! We accept the challenge to prove the naysayers wrong. It’s On!

IS IT YOURSELF RUNNING IT’S ON, OR DO YOU HAVE A CREW HELPING OUT BEHIND THE SCENES?

I run the company myself. The great thing about business today is that we can delegate things to other small business to help them build their brand while building your own.

WITH 2017 BEHIND US, WHAT PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE BRAND AS WE MOVE INTO 2018?

That is a great question. Going into 2018, I plan to do private parties at festivals, and collaborate with other companies to do exclusive pieces and flash sales. 2018 is going to be an exciting year for It’s On Clothing for sure.

I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT 2018 BRINGS FOR IT’S ON. LET’S SHIFT TO CREATIVITY.

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION WHEN COMING UP WITH NEW PRODUCT DESIGNS?

Often the process involves different lines of thinking – personal or motivational quotes, musicians, or athletes that have/are making a difference – and reworking these to figure out how I can make those things into a visual. The key is making sure the idea comes off clearly, and just as importantly, makes the people wearing it feel good.

WITH THAT MIND, WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO IN STREET CULTURE AT THE MOMENT?

I would have to say I’ve looked up to Virgil Abloh for a long time. I mean, before Off White, like when Pyrex Vision and Been Trill was around. Also, I’m a sneaker head, so Ronnie Fieg is a big designer in that arena that I look up to. From growing his own brand to being able to collaborate with major brands like Nike, Adidas, and etc. his work is pretty impressive.

LET’S WRAP IT UP, ANYONE OUT THERE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO THANK?

Absolutely! I’d like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who’s believed in me from the beginning. I won’t name names, there are so many, but they know who they are. They will always be part of the “IOC” family.

LASTLY, TELL US WHERE EVERYONE CAN REACH YOU AND YOUR BRAND, AND PLUG ANYONE WHO HAS HELPED SUPPORT YOU SO FAR!

Make sure you check out our gear on the website www.itsonclothing.com. We’re pretty active on social media, so you can follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter @itsonclothing.
